Monitoring & Testing: Air, Soil, Water and Your Home

A workshop on how to monitor, sample and test your own community water, soil and air quality. The workshop will also explore effective strategies for self directed environmental protection in your own home.

Peace with Honor: Preserving the Environment While Avoiding Litigation

A "how to" workshop of how impacted residents, targeted businesses and government officials can more effectively interface, engage in deliberative dialogue and public relations strategy in the midst of an environmental crisis and campaign.

Industrial Environmental Management & Compliance

A workshop exploring different strategies business and industrial operations can employ in order to maintain and ensure effective environmental management and compliance systems within the context of a sustainable development strategy.

78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, What Else Are You Breathing?

A workshop discussion on the state of air quality in Alabama. Various perspectives will be offered on the nature of the problem and the solutions to those problems. Efforts will be made to find common ground between the differing perspectives in the context of solution strategies.

A panel discussion of a series of case studies exploring effective and ineffective environmental public policy efforts from a national and international perspective.

The Sustainable Development Evolution – Where Do We Go From Here?

A discussion of the concept of sustainability on an international, national and local scale. The workshop will be geared towards the development of a cooperative definition and outlook of sustainability for Alabama.

Do Milk Cartons Go To Heaven? -  Where Should Trash Go and Landfills Be Located?
An exploration of the business and government processes in placing landfills, and the community response to those decisions. How business, government, and community leaders can work together in the citing and construction of landfills and how that placement affects public health.

Brownfields: Industrial Aftermath and Building Sustainable Opportunity

A workshop discussing the definition and scope of abandoned industrial sites in Alabama and the seventh congressional district. The discussion will be geared towards new use, clean up and restoration of brownfields as a more sustainable development strategy.

Recycling Good Ideas

A panel discussion on innovative strategies and sustainable opportunities that can be employed and accessed through the use of recycling on the municipal, industrial and the agricultural arenas.

Poverty, Wealth & Public Health

A panel discussion of how poverty impacts public health conditions in the seventh congressional district, the state of Alabama, nation and globe and how sustainable development strategies can impact the historical and current trends.

A solution-oriented, brainstorming session on what is required for the creation of a sustainable development strategy for the state of Alabama from a local and state perspective in terms of environmental protection, transportation, industry and micro-enterprise development, etc.

EPA & Federal Environmental Law

A panel will review of the major pieces of federal environmental legislation, executive order 12898, and how environmental impacts are monitored and environmental law is enforced in the states and local communities.

Organic Agriculture and the Environment

A discussion of the use of more sustainable approaches to agricultural production through the use of tested, chemical free methods for soil fertility and pest control on Alabama crops.

Strategic Planning for Clean Industry & Clean Jobs

How industrial development authorities and economic development entities can development a strategic plan for the recruitment of environmentally friendly, sustainable industrial prospects.

Forestry & Urban Sprawl

How forestry resources can be used to promote sustainable development and improved water quality resources in urban areas.
